ESTOCOLMO<\/strong> \u2013 Las personas y organizaciones galardonadas este a\u00f1o con el Premio Right Livelihood reafirmaron su compromiso y la necesidad global de proteger las vidas, los derechos humanos y el ambiente, al aceptar el premio en la ciudad de Estocolmo este mi\u00e9rcoles.<\/p>\n

El reconocimiento este a\u00f1o fue para Eunice Brookman-Amissah, m\u00e9dica ghanesa promotora del acceso al aborto seguro; el movimiento juvenil de Camboya Mother Nature; la activista ambiental keniana Phyllis Omido; y la organizaci\u00f3n mar\u00edtima humanitaria europea SOS Mediterranee.<\/p>\n

Enfrentando el encarcelamiento, el acoso y las constantes amenazas por parte del gobierno camboyano, Mother Nature Cambodia<\/a> ha perseverado en reclamar protecci\u00f3n ambiental y democracia. Durante su intervenci\u00f3n en la presentaci\u00f3n del premio, su representante Sun Ratha pidi\u00f3 a la generaci\u00f3n joven de su pa\u00eds que contin\u00fae con este importante trabajo. \u201cConstruir una Camboya que sea verdaderamente libre y democr\u00e1tica, donde la naturaleza sea protegida y respetada, no s\u00f3lo es posible, sino que es nuestro deber\u201d, afirm\u00f3.<\/p>\n

Phyllis Omido<\/a>, responsable del cierre de 17 plantas de fundici\u00f3n de plomo en Kenia, tambi\u00e9n destac\u00f3 los peligros que enfrentan activistas y la necesidad de cooperaci\u00f3n internacional para preservar la salud de las personas y el medio ambiente. \u00abSer activista ambiental es un compromiso de por vida que requiere resiliencia y un fuerte sistema de apoyo\u00bb, dijo. \u201cEn tiempos de adversidad, nos apoyamos en quienes comparten la misma lucha\u201d, destac\u00f3 Omido, que tambi\u00e9n record\u00f3 a la ambientalista hondure\u00f1a asesinada Berta C\u00e1ceres.<\/p>\n

La Dra. Eunice Brookman-Amissah<\/a> asegur\u00f3 que reducir las muertes maternas por abortos inseguros era la \u201cmisi\u00f3n de su vida\u201d. \u201cEspero, de hecho creo, que esta visibilizaci\u00f3n p\u00fablica de los abortos inseguros lleve al mundo a unirse para hacer algo respecto de una causa de muerte de mujeres totalmente prevenible\u201d, dijo Brookman-Amissah.<\/p>\n

SOS MEDITERRANEE<\/a>, la organizaci\u00f3n que ha rescatado a 39.000 migrantes en el mar \u00a0Mediterr\u00e1neo, afirm\u00f3 a trav\u00e9s de su directora ejecutiva en Suiza que, mientras haya personas arriesgando sus vidas en el mar en busca de seguridad, continuar\u00e1 su misi\u00f3n de rescate. \u00abRescatar gente en peligro en el mar es una obligaci\u00f3n legal: cualquier barco que sea testigo de un embarque en peligro debe rescatarlos\u00bb, afirm\u00f3 Caroline Abu Sa’da.<\/p>\n

La presentaci\u00f3n de los premios tambi\u00e9n hizo lugar para visibilizar la incierta situaci\u00f3n del defensor de derechos humanos saud\u00ed Mohammad Fahad al-Qahtani, galardonado con el Premio Right Livelihood en 2018<\/a> junto a Abdullah al-Hamid y Waleed Abu al-Khair, los tres encarcelados por entonces. Tras cumplir condena de diez a\u00f1os, estaba previsto que al-Qahtani fuera liberado en noviembre de 2022, sin embargo, fue desaparecido forzadamente poco antes.<\/p>\n

\u201cA pesar de estar encarcelado, pap\u00e1 llamaba dos veces al d\u00eda y estaba muy involucrado en nuestra vida diaria\u201d, dijo Abdullah al-Qahtani, su hijo. \u201cSin embargo, en octubre del a\u00f1o pasado dej\u00f3 de llamar. Eso fue s\u00f3lo un mes antes de su fecha de liberaci\u00f3n. Desde entonces no hemos estado en contacto con \u00e9l\u201d. Right Livelihood, junto con la familia de al-Qahtani y otras organizaciones de derechos humanos, est\u00e1 pidiendo a las autoridades sauditas la inmediata liberaci\u00f3n de al-Qahtani<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Durante m\u00e1s de 40 a\u00f1os, el Premio Right Livelihood ha honrado y apoyado a personas valientes que resuelven problemas globales. Hasta la fecha son 194 las personas y organizaciones laureadas en 76 pa\u00edses.<\/p>\n

Durante m\u00e1s de 40 a\u00f1os, Right Livelihood ha honrado y apoyado a personas visionarias que resuelven problemas globales. Bajo el paraguas de una fundaci\u00f3n, Right Livelihood es una comunidad impulsada en el coraje, el compromiso con la paz, la justicia y la sustentabilidad.<\/p>\n

Cada a\u00f1o se presenta el Premio Right Livelihood, que hasta la fecha distingui\u00f3 a 194 personas y organizaciones de 76 pa\u00edses<\/a>. Reconociendo las acciones de valientes agentes de cambio y construyendo conexiones significativas alrededor del mundo, Right Livelihood intenta contribuir a un cambio social urgente y duradero.<\/p>\n

El Premio se fund\u00f3 en 1980 luego de que la Fundaci\u00f3n Nobel rechazara la propuesta de crear dos nuevos galardones para honrar a personas comprometidas con la promoci\u00f3n de la justicia social y las causas ambientales, destacando especialmente a agentes de cambio del Sur Global.<\/p>\n

Actualmente, Right Livelihood es mucho m\u00e1s que un premio: es apoyo a largo plazo. Elevando su perfil, resaltando sus ideas innovadoras y brindando protecci\u00f3n cuando sus vidas y su libertad est\u00e1n en peligro, Right Livelihood es un meg\u00e1fono y un escudo para las personas galardonadas.<\/p>\n

Right Livelihood tiene su sede principal en Estocolmo, y una oficina en Ginebra. La Fundaci\u00f3n tiene estatus consultivo especial en la ONU.<\/p>\n
