CPT: Ongoing attacks and death threats
News 19.02.2013
The Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) in Brazil, which campaigns for the rights of small farmers and the landless in Brazil, has suffered three attacks on its headquarters in the state of Acre this year. It is suspected that these attacks are reprisal attacks on CPT, which recently denounced irregularities in forest management and land ownership in the states of Acre and Amazonas. The Right Livelihood Award Foundation condemns the attacks and demands again increased security for rural workers.
The CPT received the Right Livelihood Award in 1991 jointly with the Landless Workers’ Movement MST. Cícero Guedes, a leader of the MST, had been killed on January 25th.
