What previous Laureates have said about the Award:

“This Award can help our work by educating many more people out there that this is for all not just for the Freda Husons and other Laureates but every human being has their part to stop climate change and make a better future for our children and grandchildren.”
–Freda Huson, Wet’suwet’en, Canada, 2021 Laureate

“This Award for me is a victory of the victims over their perpetrators and also a sign of courage to continue our work, because the hope of being able to achieve the restoration of rights is a road that is long, but it is possible.”
–Marthe Wandou, Cameroon, 2021 Laureate

Right Livelihood has presented the Award annually since 1980. Through the Award, we honour and support the actions of brave visionaries, with the aim of boosting urgent and long-term social change. We do not apply any special categories – the world is complex and interconnected. You can learn more about Laureates in the fields of human rights, environment, journalism, peace, culture and sustainable development, to name a few examples, among our 186 Laureates from 73 countries.
