International Women’s Day
News 08.03.2011
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the International Women’s Day, our council member Margot Wallström, UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, wrote an article in Huffington Post about the importance of ending sexual violence as a war weapon.
Our Laureate Monika Hauser (Germany, RLA 2008) works to prevent and punish sexual violence against women and girls in wartime and to assist the survivors. She is featured, among other women, in a special International Women’s Day edition of the German newspaper taz.
Other featured female Laureates, being amongst the most influential and inspiring women, were e.g. Vandana Shiva, (India, RLA 1993), Irene Fernandez (Malaysia, RLA 2005) and Catherine Hamlin (Ethiopia, RLA 2009).
