Acceptance speech – Marthe Wandou

Ladies and Gentlemen, good evening and receive greetings from the Far North Region of Cameroon.

At this historical moment of my life, I would like to thank the Executive Director and Jury of the Right Livelihood Award for choosing me as a 2021 Laureate, which brings a special strength to my work.

Thank you for making this moment possible and for giving me the opportunity to become a member of the Right Livelihood family.

This important prize makes me think of where I come from, the long and difficult life, and the challenges faced by women and girls, especially victims in my region.

Thank you to my colleagues for their commitment, thank you to my family and my children for all the support they are for me and for my work.

I promise to continue being a human rights and peace defender in my country Cameroon, everywhere and to always stand up for vulnerable people, especially women and children.

As a member of the Laureates’ network, I promise to be a light and change-maker for others.

Thank you to all those who support ALDEPA’s work.

Thank you for everything, I love you all.

Thank you.
