Press Conference in Stockholm
The press conference announcing the 2026 Right Livelihood Laureates was live-streamed on our YouTube channel and broadcast live via the European Broadcasting Union to TV stations around Europe.
Announcement Day began at 6 am CEST, when the media embargo was lifted and information about the new Laureates went live. A press conference followed at 8 am at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Stockholm’s arts and culture centre.
Throughout the day, journalists also had the chance to hear from the new Laureates directly after the Announcement via online press conferences.
“A system built to serve the few was never going to hold.
This year, we honour women who refused to wait for permission. They are rewriting the rules that autocrats, patriarchs, and Silicon Valley’s most powerful men assumed were theirs to write alone.”
Ole von Uexkull, Executive Director at Right Livelihood
International media
The new Laureates were covered by news outlets throughout the globe, including several TV networks, using footage that Right Livelihood provided. Several of the new Laureates were also interviewed on live TV and radio in the days surrounding the announcement.
The fact that all four Laureates were women or women-led organisations resonated with audiences worldwide.
Nordic media
The Laureates were covered on Sweden’s leading radio news programme, Sveriges Radio Ekot, and through Sweden’s largest news agency, TT, as well as in Dagens Nyheter, which conducted an exclusive interview with the Laureate Timnit Gebru.
In addition, Finnish and Norwegian media picked up on the Announcement.
