Environmental justice leader and 2010 Right Livelihood Laureate Nnimmo Bassey has joined Right Livelihood’s Board as of October 1, 2025, for a four-year term.
“Joining the Board is a humbling experience that places a huge responsibility on me, given the scope of what Right Livelihood does and stands for,” Bassey said. “The Foundation not only honours Laureates each year but also accompanies them in their struggles to show right livelihood in all ramifications.”
Bassey serves on the Right Livelihood Jury and is the Executive Director of Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF), an environmental and ecological think tank and advocacy organisation based in Nigeria. He co-founded Environmental Rights Action (ERA), also known as Friends of the Earth Nigeria, where he served as Executive Director for two decades and remains a member of the Advisory Board.
He previously served as Co-Chair of Global Greengrants and currently contributes to global efforts to Stop Ecocide, continuing his long-standing commitment to environmental justice and planetary stewardship.
Reflecting on his journey since receiving the Award, he added:
“Being part of the Right Livelihood family has strengthened my belief in humanity’s potential to stand up for what is just and right, even in times when global morality slides in the wrong direction.”
