25th anniversary of Chernobyl disaster

“The lesson of Fukushima is clear: natural disasters and accidents will happen. If it can go wrong sooner or later it will go wrong. Murphy’s law and nuclear technology do not mix. Fukushima is not the first – and won’t be the last – nuclear disaster as long as countries continue to operate nuclear power facilities…”

This message from Alyn Ware (New Zealand, RLA 2009) and Abolition 2000 was released today, at the 25th anniversary of Chernobyl, demanding:

“In solidarity with the hundreds of thousands of victims and survivors of the nuclear energy and weapons industries we call for an end to nuclear energy and weapons – the human and environmental impact of both being uncontrollable in time and space.”
