The Laureates of this year’s Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’, will be announced on Monday, 24 September. The announcement will take place in Stockholm at 09:00 (CEST) at the International Press Centre at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Fredsgatan 6.

The announcement will be made by Ole von Uexkull, Executive Director of the Right Livelihood Award Foundation, and Amelie von Zweigbergk, board and jury member. The press conference will be livestreamed via rightlivelihoodaward.org.

Anyone can propose candidates to be considered for the Right Livelihood Award. After careful, exhaustive, investigation by the Foundation’s research team, reports on the current proposals are submitted to the Foundation’s board and an international Jury. The Jury meets annually in September to select the recipients. This year, the international Jury considers 107 candidates from 50 different countries.

Unlike most other international prizes, the Right Livelihood Award has no categories. It recognises that, in striving to meet the human challenges of today’s world, the most inspiring and remarkable work often defies any standard classification.

Previous Laureates include whistleblower Edward Snowden (USA), investigative journalist Khadija Ismayilova (Azerbaijan), human rights activist Jacqueline Moudeina (Chad), as well as Swedish children’s book author Astrid Lindgren.

To attend the press conference, pre-registration is required before September 21 by sending an email to communications@rightlivelihood.org. Please bring a valid press card.

The announcement will be live streamed via: rightlivelihoodaward.org.
